PAINTING
Our painting classes and workshops welcome both beginners and experienced painters who wish to explore and develop their skills in acrylics, water-mixable oils, and traditional oils. Students will learn essential painting techniques, including colour theory, layering, glazing, and composition, while developing their understanding of colour, light, and form. Through demonstrations, guided exercises, and individual instruction, students will strengthen their technical skills, build confidence, and discover their own creative voice.
DRAWING
Explore the foundations of drawing through observation, proportion, structure, and accurate placement. Working from reference images and live models, students will learn how line, light and shadow bring form and expression to life. Our classes are beginner friendly and are set in a relaxed and supportive environment.
SCULPTURE
Explore the fundamentals of sculpting in clay through easy, step-by-step demonstrations. Observe how to sculpt facial features and gain an understanding how they fit together to form a realistic portrait. You’ll build confidence with clay, develop new skills and enjoy bringing your own creative expression to life. Develop the understanding of anatomy of the human figure and work directly from a live model as well as from sculpted reference casts.

Open to beginners and experienced artists, classes follow a structured, observation-based approach to drawing and painting. Students learn through demonstrations, guided exercises, and individual instruction, progressing from foundational skills to more advanced techniques. Explore proportion, value, colour theory, composition, form, light, and paint handling while developing stronger observation, confidence, and a personal artistic approach.

Designed for ages 13–17, these classes help students strengthen observational drawing, proportion, perspective, value, composition, and design skills. Students develop finished, portfolio-ready artwork while learning how to plan, refine, and present their work. Personalized instruction supports each student’s goals, whether preparing for art programs or developing their practice.

FROM DRAWING TO SCULPTING IN CLAY (1 day workshop)
Curious about drawing or sculpture? Come spend a creative day exploring both! Join Mahshid Farhoudi for a relaxed, hands-on introduction to portrait drawing from a live model. In the afternoon, sculptor Denisa Prochazka will guide you in bringing your portrait into three dimensions through clay. No previous experience needed - just come ready to create, experiment, and have fun!

FIGURE DRAWING IN CHARCOAL, CONTE & INK (1 day workshop)
Working from a live nude model, this one-day workshop explores the essential principles of figure drawing, including proportion, gesture, volume, and chiaroscuro. The morning focuses on a sustained pose using charcoal and Conté to develop observation and form. In the afternoon, students will work from a series of shorter poses in pen and ink, charcoal, and Conté, emphasizing expressive mark-making, movement, and light. Suitable for introductory and intermediate students.

Explore the classical foundations of portrait drawing through careful observation and disciplined study from the live model. Drawing and Painting with Mahshid Farhoudi
Mahshid offers personalized, one-on-one drawing and painting instruction for youth and adults, tailored to each student's goals and skill level.
Monthly package: $1,500
12 hours of instruction per month (3 hours per week).
Basic materials included: sketchbook, eraser, and graphite pencils.
Limited availability: a maximum of three private students per month.
Sculpting with Denisa Prochazka
Denisa offers private sculpting lessons exclusively for adults. Lessons can be arranged in either Manotick or Almonte.
Clay and sculpting tools are available in the studio. Additional clay may be purchased for $25 / bag.
Students are encouraged to bring their own favourite sculpting tools. A basic sculpting tool set is available for $25.

Red Blanket Art Studio Policies
RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOUR
We ask all students and visitors to treat instructors, fellow students, and the studio with respect. Harassment, bullying, or disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated.
ENROLLEMENT
We offer ongoing registration, allowing students to join classes at any time during the month, subject to availability. Red Blanket Art Studio reserves the right to decline or discontinue enrolment when necessary.
TUITION AND PAYMENT
Tuition is paid in advance for four sessions at a time. Students may begin at any point during the month, but registration and payment cover four sessions. By enrolling, students commit to attending and paying for the full four-session block.
REFUNDS AND EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES
Tuition is paid in advance for four sessions and is generally non-refundable once a session block has begun. If you need to cancel before your block starts, please contact us at least two weeks in advance. We understand that unexpected circumstances can arise. Requests involving serious illness or other exceptional situations will be considered individually at the studio's discretion. While we cannot guarantee refunds or credits, we will do our best to approach each situation fairly and reasonably.
MISSED CLASSES AND MAKE-UP SESSIONS
Students may request one make-up class per 4 week block, subject to availability. Make up classes must be scheduled within the purchased 4 week block. Additional absences are not eligable for makeup classes, credits or refunds. If the studio must cancel a class due to instructor illness, severe weather, or other unforeseen circumstances, a make-up class will be arranged.
TRIAL CLASSES
We do not offer trial lessons. Please ensure that the class suits your interests and schedule before registering for a four-session block.
INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION AND INSTRUCTION
Our classes emphasize individual guidance and personal development. Mahshid Farhoudi brings over 20 years of professional teaching experience, adapting instruction to each student's skill level, learning pace, and artistic goals.
